Bella Thorne Opens Up About Her Acne Struggle

And squashes nasty assumptions about people who suffer from acne!

It’s no secret that most teens have to deal with acne, but sometimes it’s easy to forget that celebrities have to deal with it too. Bella Thorne is always keeping it real whether she’s talking about relationships and staying true to yourself or setting the rumors straight about her own acne struggle. Today she posted a photo to Instagram to let her fans know that she’s seriously just like everyone else. Using the hashtag #MyNaturalBeauty, Bella wrote, “I know us girls love to put makeup on, not only for fun but sometimes to hide our insecurities…well, here is a photo of me without ANY makeup on my face.”

Bella’s words really struck a chord with us because here at YSBnow, we work hard to separate the fun in wearing makeup from the need to wear makeup. We love wearing makeup, talking about makeup, and doing our friends’ makeup, but we want to make it clear that when we recommend products or show celebs’ personal makeup bags, that’s all just for fun. We never want you to think that you have to wear makeup every day or that you need it to be beautfiul. You’re beautfiul NOW! That’s why our site is called YSBnow and that’s why we were so moved by Bella’s post.

She goes on to write, “I took this photo while arriving to set this morning. Personally, I struggled with acne for a long time. I used to cry every night because I thought I looked so ugly. I used to read comments about my face, my skin, my nose, my eyes, and even my beauty marks people didn’t approve of.”

The thing is, there a thousands of girls who deal with this exact same problem. The only this is that there are a lot of other girls and boys who don’t deal with it, so it becomes an easy target for bullying. Nasty nicknames and hurtful social media comments can come from it and it really isn’t right because those bullies don’t understand that even if you wash your face and take care of your skin, acne is a part of growing up. For a lot of people, it’s just the way your skin is developing and it’s a whole mess of hormones and sweat and stress and it is not your fault!

“Putting makeup over acne makes it so much worse. I know lots of my friends also struggle with acne and it’s something you can’t control. I know lots of people think others with acne are “dirty” or “don’t take care of themselves.” That is false. My question to you is: Why should we be judged? Use #mynaturalbeauty & lets inspire every girl to be proud of what they look like and who they are. I love you guys. And ps…if you don’t accept me for my insecurities please get off my page,” Bella finishes.

Thanks, Bella! Hopefully this will inspire and inform.
