“I don’t usually do videos on serious topics, but I think it’s important to every once in a while”
No one should ever have to explain why they are gaining or losing weight – but Ricky Dillon wants his fans to know his story in order to speak out against body shaming. He created a new YouTube video titled “I Gained 50 pounds…” in order to tell fans about what’s been going on with his weight– and also call out haters for being rude about his changing appearance.
“I don’t usually do videos on serious topics but I think it’s important to every once in a while,” Ricky shared in his YouTube video. “Yes, my title is pretty dramatic and it’s not clickbait. I have gained 50 pounds this year, most of it towards the end of the year, recently. And first of all, it’s been on purpose.”
The YouTuber went on to explain his efforts to put on weight.
“I am really into health and fitness, and I have kind of looked and been the same for like 10 years,” he shared with fans. “I just wanted to switch things up and I work with a really great personal trainer. He has pushed me crazy hard. But basically I have purposefully been gaining weight to build muscle, to build mass. It’s called bulking.”
Unfortunately, Ricky has been receiving some rude, body-shaming comments because of his dramatically different appearance. “[Some comments] have been really nice… But there’s a lot that are kind of rude and unnecessary,” he said. “There are some that are like, ‘Wow, Ricky is getting really fat.’ ‘Ricky has gained so much weight, he looks horrible now.’ ‘Ricky suddenly looks 10 years older.’”
Since posting this video to his channel, Ricky has gotten a lot of encouraging feedback. In fact, he has even inspired others to tell their own stories, whether they, too, are “bulking” or even if their weight gain/loss is unintentional. We’re proud of Ricky for opening up about such a personal topic.

Ricky also spoke up about bullying in our exclusive interview earlier this year:
Ricky, you’re so beautiful now!
