Kelsea Ballerini Shares How She Stays True To Herself

The country singer made a promise to herself to never change who she is.

Kelsea Ballerini’s music career has blown up right in front of our eyes. Most of her fans – us included – can remember her earliest days, when she was releasing her first single “Love Me Like You Mean It.” Now, she’s blossomed into one of the biggest forces in country music. 

But one of the things we love most about the performer is how little she has let success change her. In fact, in a new interview with Elite Daily, Kelsea explained that she actually made a promise to herself to always remember why she was pursuing these big dreams – which means there’s no “acting fake” on social media.

“I made a promise to myself when I signed a record deal when I was 19,” she said. “I promised myself that I would be the same person on stage as I was out to dinner with my friends, as I was on Instagram. I never wanted anyone to see me anywhere and be disappointed, if that makes sense. So I share everything.”

It’s so important that the version of Kelsea fans get to see online really *is* her true personality.

Kelsea added that it’s important for her to be true to her roots in her personal life, but also in her music. But that doesn’t mean she’s scared of growth.

“The best kind of artists are the ones that change but stay the same, if that makes sense,” she explained. “It’s hard to do and I think that’s why a lot of artists have a shorter career. … It’s something that I want to learn from people like Taylor [Swift] and like Keith [Urban] and people that somehow reinvent themselves but stay the same.”
