“I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself and I’ve found that kindness is the best way”
This week, 30-year-old singer, activist, actress, and irrefutable goddess Lady Gaga (aka Stefani Germanotta) revealed that she suffers from PTSD. PTSD–or post-traumatic stress disorder–is a mental health disorder that can occur after a trauma or life-threatening event, like war or a car accident. While she’s a rape survivor, she’s stated that there are several causes for condition. “It wasn’t just sexual assault that let to my complex PTSD,” she tweeted. “I have prolonged repetitive traumas over the course of my career.”
During an appearance on the Today show, she shared, “I suffer from a mental illness – I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are.” She then went on to talk about her healing process, saying, “The kindness that’s been shown to me–it’s really saved my life. I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself and I’ve found that kindness is the best way.”
Now, she’s showing that same kindness to others, and helping countless people heal from their own traumas.
