#WCW: Supermodel Karlie Kloss Is Completely Crushing It!

The Missouri native is way more than just a pretty face

Of course we all know Karlie Kloss as the Victoria’s Secret Angel and T. Swift squad member, but she’s so much more than that!

In 2014, Karlie was inspired by the founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, to see how digital platforms were built and understand how they really worked. She enrolled in a pre-college coding course at Flatiron School and it sparked a new passion! In 2015, the 22-year-old supermodel enrolled at New York University (NYU) and since then she’s made a huge impact in the world of coding. Yes, we said coding!

Karlie started a “Kode with Karlie” scholarship fund for young women interested in taking the course that ignited her passion. Last summer, she even launched her own summer camp for girls 13-18 called Kode with Klossy! Camps were held Los Angeles, New York and Karlie’s hometown of St. Louis. Campers learned so much about coding, they even got to build their own web app!

“Like anything you’re learning, when you have a teacher that is excited and passionate about it, that is contagious and it makes it so much more fun for the students to learn, to continue to push forward and not to get stuck,” she explains.

Karlie loves watching young girls learn and grow like she did! “It’s really an exciting and empowering feeling, and it’s really cool to watch these young women do it,” she says. “It kind of totally changes their thought of what they think they’re capable of within this space.”

For some reason, there’s a lot of judgement in our society. People hear the word “supermodel” and automatically think “no brains, all beauty.” But Karlie is a major example of why we should never judge a book by its cover. Karlie’s beautiful – inside and out – and we love that she’s inspiring young women to break out of their shells and discover coding. Karlie’s our WCW because she’s so beautiful – and brainy – now!
