“Valentine’s Day isn’t just about someone that you’re dating or have a crush on – it’s for love in general!”
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner – and from making cards for your friends to enjoying all of your favorite seasonal candy, it can be so much fun! But it can also be…not so fun. “I think sometimes there’s pressure to have a boyfriend or significant other on Valentine’s Day,” says Lilia, before her best friend, Emily, adds, “But it doesn’t matter! There’s always Galentine’s Day!” And what better way to celebrate Galentine’s Day than with two of our most favorite celebrity BFFs, Lilia Buckingham and Emily Skinner.
When you see the powerhouse pair hanging out together on social media, it’s obvious how genuine their friendship is. We can 100% confirm that it’s exactly like that in real life, too. Case in point: We had an interview with Lilia set up and Emily arrived with her, totally surprising us, and giving us the idea to interview them together!
And while they’re both amazing friends, Lilia spills that she’s not so amazing at arts and crafts. “When I went to school, we had to make Valentine’s cards for our entire class,” she laughs. “I was such a horrible artist, and my mom was like, ‘They’re great, honey!'” Emily would make her own cards, too, and personally drop them off at her friends’ houses. “I didn’t have that many friends,” she smiles. “It was like three people!”
But Emily and Lilia know that when it comes to friendship, it’s all about quality, not quantity. “It’s really tough at our age because we’re finding ourselves,” says Lilia. “I think it’s important to remember that you shouldn’t change yourself for a friendship. You should find somebody who loves you as you are, not for who they want you to be, or who they’ll accept you as. Once you embrace yourself, more people who love you for you, will flock toward you.” Just like Emily and Lilia flocked toward each other after meeting on the set of Brat’s Total Eclipse last year.
And we love the idea of celebrating Galentine’s Day with our BFFs. If you haven’t heard of the holiday, made famous on an episode of Parks & Recreation, it’s the idea of celebrating not a love interest, but your favorite people on the planet. “You can spend time with your family, friends, and people you care about,” says Emily. “Valentine’s Day isn’t just about someone you’re dating or have a crush on; it can be anyone!”
Emily and Lilia tell us that their Galentine’s Day party would have lots of snacks, like soft sugar cookies (the ones with icing on top) and heart-shaped pancakes (but no chocolate because Emily’s allergic). They’d also have balloons (ones that wouldn’t hurt sea turtles!), a photo booth, and their favorite rom-com movies.
They also told us that they have a special message for their fans. “We just wanted to say Happy Valentine’s Day,” says Emily. And just like true BFFs, Lilia finishes her sentence. “We love you guys and hope you enjoy your Valentine’s Day, giving love to all of the people that you care about.”
