The “Riverdale” co-stars make a big statement after shutting down body-shamers.
Have you ever just had one of those days where everything about your body just feels sluggish and off? Or perhaps you spot an unflattering photo of yourself that reminds you of every insecurity you have ever felt before? It happens to everybody, especially because our bodies are constantly fluctuating and changing, for better or for worse. It’s important to stop for a second and remind ourselves of that fact often, but sometimes it can be challenging — and even your fave “Riverdale” stars know it.
Actresses and BFFs Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes both took to social media to shut down body shamers and turn the conversation on embracing out bodies the way they are.
“This is just my body. And sometimes I’m bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo is taken of me. Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight,” Lili shared on Instagram, after encountering some rude words about her appearance. “My body is something that I will NEVER apologize for. My body will constantly go through change. And so will yours. And that’s fine. So let’s not put so much time and effort into caring about a stranger’s figure.”
Yes, girl! Lili’s words are not only empowering to all of us, but her co-star was so inspired that she jumped in with some supportive statements of her own.
“Inspired by you @lilireinhart,” Camila posted on Instagram. “I feel bloated 24/7, my weight fluctuates constantly — it comes with being a woman and should be celebrated, not criticized. I used to fear that day that people start publicly criticizing my body and commenting on my weight. I’ve suffered too much from my own self criticism and wasn’t sure that I could handle it from others. But seeing somebody as beautiful as Lili respond to public scrutiny by preaching and practicing self love is all it takes for me to overcome that fear. Proud to call her my friend. Let’s continue inspiring women to love their bodies.”
What powerful and important messages from these incredible stars!
