Louis Tomlinson Dishes on How Writing His Solo Album Was Totally Different Than Working with One Direction

You’re going to learn a lot more about him through this work.

Louis Tomlinson’s solo singles “Back To You” and “Just Hold On” are way different than any of the songs he recorded during his One Direction days. But his turn to new sounds, new topics, and new collaborations are all part of the singer’s musical evolution — and he wants you to know that you can expect to see an entirely different side of him when his solo album drops.

In fact, when he stopped by the Music Choice studios, he explained that even his current writing process is very different than it has ever been before.

“The writing process actually was easier for me… because you know I kinda just write about me and be very honest and very open,” said Louis. “I mean when I wrote for One Direction, I had to write a concept that matches for the four boys and to listeners as well. [It’s] nice to just to be able to completely open up…it is more pressure because it is just my decisions, obviously I take opinions from other people….It is exciting.”

“I like to be a as honest as possible in interviews and stuff like that and I am just try to put that into my music as much as possible,” he added. “Very honest. You will learn a little bit more about me after this album.”

If you’re following Louis’ solo single releases, you’ll know that he’s collaborated with several other artists on his songs (like Steve Aoki and Bebe Rexha.) This is something he says he’d like to continue.

“In my head I would like to have one more [collaboration] for the album,” he said. “We have not really discussed who that might be yet. I just like to think it’s a little more outside the box. Maybe like a musical collaborator.”

We can’t wait to see who Louis collaborates with next!
