MUST-WATCH: Demi Lovato Reveals How She Got “Confident”
“I’ve really surrendered to the process of just learning to love yourself.”
Have you noticed that Demi Lovato’s Instagram has been on FIRE lately? The singer has been sharing tons of amazing photos with her fans, and not only does she look phenomenal in the pics, but you can also tell she is more confident than ever.
When the star stopped by ellen, she explained that her shift in mindset comes from trying to give her perfectionist self a break in 2018.
“I’ve been working on myself for the past year, more so than I’ve ever worked on myself. I’ve really surrendered to the process of just learning to love yourself, and I feel like it shows through my pictures,” Demi shared. “I post more bathing suit pictures online. I want to show my fans that it’s possible that they can get to that self-love too.”
You may have seen a story we wrote a few weeks ago about one of those bathing suit photos. Demi admitted on Instagram that she wasn’t sure she 100% loved her appearance in the beach pic, but she looked so happy in the snap that she couldn’t *NOT* post it.
“I actually was very hesitant about posting that because I didn’t love my legs in it,” she told Ellen about that moment. “You know every time you look at a picture of yourself, you critique it. I’m a perfectionist. I decided to post it anyways because I thought, ‘You know what, it’s me, it’s who I am, and I love my body, so I’m just going to post it.'”
Not only did it boost Demi’s self-confidence to recognize that her photos were capturing her inner light, but it took away the sting of negative criticism she sometimes receives online.
“I’ve taken away the power from the negative comments and the haters by not listening to them and if I do see it, I just feel sorry for them, because who leaves a negative comment on somebody’s profile on the internet? You have to be kind of sad to do that. I’ve taken away the power, and it just feels great.”
