It’s about time!
Nike is coming out with a hijab for Muslim women athletes!
The “Nike Pro Hijab” is a single-layered, pull-on head cover made from lightweight polyester. The fabric is opaque, with tiny holes in it for breathability and comes in dark, neutral colors.
“I was thrilled and a bit emotional to see Nike prototyping a Hijab,” says Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari, who is already wearing the hijab in her training. “I’ve tried so many different hijabs for performance, and so few of them actually work for me. But once I put it on and took it for a spin on the ice, I was blown away by the fit and the light weight.”
Though Muslim women have been wearing athletic hijabs made by small businesses like Capsters and Friniggi, it’s great to see a major company like Nike celebrate diversity. Hopefully the “Nike Pro Hijab” will make life easier for our sporty Muslim friends!
The final product will be available for purchase by Spring 2018.
