Queer Kid Stuff’ Talk Feminism

We Can Do It!

By: Emily J

We already showed you how Queer Kid Stuff broke down Steven Universe and talked about queer themes within the show but in the newest episode, they talk about a very important topic: feminism.

The creator and host of the show, Lindsay Amer, uses the iconic Rosie the Riveter as a talking point about women’s rights in America such as the wage gap and job equality. She even touches on the history of women’s voting rights in the 1920s.

This episode really begins to expand the topics we can tackle in the videos,” Lindsay told The Huffington Post. “While feminism isn’t strictly an LGBTQ+ topic, it has so much to do with queerness and intersectionality and equality ? all major tenants of the lessons we’ve had so far ? that it fits snugly in with the rest of the videos. It’s also the first episode where we are directly talking about a form of activism, which is incredibly important to teach at a young age, particularly in our current political climate. There are so many ways kids can be activists too!”
