19-year-old Khoudia Diop is a Senegalese teen who’s been bullied throughout her life just because of her skin color. “I was picked on by other kids because [of the darkness] of my skin tone,” she told The Huffington Post. “It’s not a nice feeling and I’ve had to learn to love myself more every day and tune out the negativity, which helps a lot!”

And at 17, the skin tone that she was teased for got her hired as a professional model! Khoudia now splits her time between Paris and New York City, where she’s thriving as a top model and is also enrolled as a full-time college student!

But for Khoudia, who now has close to 300,000 Instagram followers, it’s not about having the last laugh against her bullies; it’s about making a difference in the lives of others. “I want to inspire young girls and let them know that we are all goddesses inside and out,” she says. “The message I have for my sisters is that how you look doesn’t matter as long as you feel beautiful inside.”
