Black History Month 2019: Celebrating Kamil McFadden’s Family Ties

The “K.C. Undercover” star opens up about his great grandfathers & performs a powerful poem

February is Black History Month, a time when it’s especially important to remember the accomplishments of African-Americans in the United States. To commemorate this month, we will be sharing the personal family stories our favorite celebrities are most proud of – including the incredible connections they have to history!

First up, we’re spotlighting K.C. Undercover actor Kamil McFadden, whose ties to exceptional historical significance run back generations. Two of his ancestors are remembered for their sacrifices in the military.

“One of my great grandfathers was a Buffalo Soldier,” the star shared. The Buffalo Soliders were African-American military members originally part of a segregated regiment of the United States Army. These soldiers used their position to fight for their own equal citizenship rights – while also working hard to support U.S. war efforts over the decades.

“[My] other [great grandfather] was a Tuskegee airman,” Kamil added. The Tuskegee airmen were the first black servicemen who served as military pilots in the U.S. Army, before the Air Force officially existed. They are remembered for flying with great distinction during World War II.

“They were both on my mother’s side of the family,” Kamil shared.

Watch below to see Kamil perform a powerful poem he wrote in 2016, entitled “Black Power.”

Stay tuned for more inspirational stories as we continue to celebrate Black History Month!
