Maeve Steele Reveals The Inspiration Behind Her Song “Shimmer”
Maeve Steele released the music video for her new single “Shimmer” this week and we can’t get enough of her bold style and refreshing sound. The video lives up to its’ name with plenty of sparkle and shine, showing off Maeve’s effortlessly cool confidence. Maeve is just as cool as her music is, so we had to ask her about her music journey and what advice she has for aspiring artists. Check out our exclusive Q&A with her below.
Who is Maeve Steele?
I’m a singer-songwriter in Los Angeles, by way of Nashville!
What is your earliest memory with music?
I started playing violin around age four, so my earliest memories with music are my mom helping me fumble through classical music. We would listen to a lot of Dixie Chicks growing up, and I thought it was really cool that one of them played the violin.
Tell us about your new single “Shimmer” and what it means to you.
I wrote this song when I was going through a huge life adjustment, and really feeling the loneliness and boredom of a new stage of life. To me, Shimmer is about finding happiness and excitement in any situation, and really being able to look inside yourself to get there.
What was the inspiration behind the music video?
I wanted the music video to represent the dreaminess that the song was born out of. I wrote this during quarantine, so really my biggest fantasy at the time was wanting to dance with my friends. I love that the video captures that feeling of yearning as well as the freedom and bliss of being surrounded by people you love.
YSBnow stands for “You’re So Beautiful Now.” What advice do you have for our readers when it comes to loving and believing in themselves and their dreams?
Everyone experiences the world in a unique way, and everyone’s take on it is worthy of being expressed. Never second guess yourself when it comes to sharing your story, because that’s how we empathize with each other. The world can only benefit from more empathy.
