“I’m not always going to be perfect.”
Zendaya is an incredible singer and actress, a fierce fashionista, and an empowering activist. She has grown up on television, and has tons of young fans looking up to her as a role model. (Chances are, you credit her as one of your own biggest celeb inspirations – because we sure do!) But in a recent interview, she shared that sometimes her platform also makes her feel pressure to be perfect.
“Sometimes, as a young person in this industry, I put a lot of pressure on myself to do the right thing. I think this is a flaw of mine,” the star told CR Fashion Book. “I get so afraid to make the wrong decisions, but I have to understand that I’m only 21 years old. I’m not going to always be perfect.”
Z explained that while she wants to make the right choices for herself, she can’t stress herself out over thinking she’s going to mess everything up.
“You cannot let the fear of not being perfect stop you from doing anything at all,” she shared. “I still have a lot of things left to do in my career and it’s okay to frickin’ learn from a situation and grow from it.”
It just so happens that the best role models out there are the ones who are imperfect and real – and teach us all how to learn from the mistakes we’ll (inevitably!) make.
